Cunning Plan er en studie i at gøre mindst muligt overhovedet. For når udgangspunktet er nærved perfekte druer, handler det bare om at få dem i gæringskarret og vente. Frugt så ren som uskylden selv, duft af kræge, sollune brombær og anis. Som at bide i en fuldmoden blomme.
Thistledown er ikke bare endnu et vinhus. Det er som at finde ud af, at to mekanikere har gået i en garage og puslet med en bil, der kan køre fra Ferrari. Med andre ord (kunst)håndværk i den helt vilde mesterklasse. Håndplukket og håndlavet af de allerbedste druer, vildgæret i hele klaser og uden industrielle tilsætninger. To Masters of Wine, Giles og Fergal, står for driften og de styrer benhårdt efter friskhed, terroir og good old Aussie juiciness. Vinene er ikke i hverdagsprislejet, men stadig regulære kup i deres liga.

There’s an effortlessness about the wine that really strikes a chord, exactly what McLaren Valre does so well.
92 points The Wine FrontSourced from a vineyard in McLaren Flat. 15% new oak. No black adders included in the crush. Blackberry, plum, dark chocolate, a little vanilla and spice, attractive floral and slightly minty perfume here too. It’s fleshy, all the chocolate dipped plums, a meaty character, fleshy but supple tannin, and fairly long salted plum aftertaste. Nice wine. Classic hearty regional stuff.

90 points The Real ReviewExpressive aromatics of dark fruits, dried herbs, vanilla and spice. Dark flavours of satsuma plum, blackcurrants, mulberry, chocolate and a lick of mintiness. There’s a brightness and freshness to the palate, the tannins are granular and grippy and the acid gives cut and definition.
