Begude, Arcturus Chardonnay 2016 Limoux
Wild ferment, Begude’s top two barrels (600-litre demi muids) and bottled after 12 months in oak. The second vintage.
Smells a little sweeter than the regular Étoile bottling. Serious structure and still very slightly astringent. Obviously ambitious with quite a future ahead of it, but I suspect not such blindingly good value as the Étoile. Rather peachy with a nod to yesteryear. I wouldn’t mind oak that was a little more savoury. But the finish is impressive. 13.5%
